American Chinese cuisines
Chop suey
American Chinese Cuisine was born out of immigrants from China who went to the USA to seek for railroads, mining and all other kinds of employment. They were not allowed to own lands, so the stayed in a little ghetto called Chinatown. As they begin to grow, they started opening businesses like restaurants, laundry and others to serve Chinese around. For lack of main Chinese groceries, they had to adapt to what they have to appeal to but Chinese and Americans customers.
As the railroad increased so they spread to the east and it became a big thing especially in the New York. History has it that it was first spotted in San Francisco because they operated a more sophisticated restaurant patronized by Chinese.
One of the most common Americans Chinese cuisine is the chop suey. It has lots of history which we don’t know which to hold. It might have not been made in China, but I’m quite sure it was made by a Chinese. It’s a combination of meat stewed and fried with bean sprouts, bamboo shoots, and onions, and served with rice. Some say it was made By a Chinese diplomat who wanted to impress is American guest, so he ordered his chef to prepare a meal that would appeal to Chinese and American palate. Some say it was discovered in a restaurant. Drunk miners and railroad workers came late to the restaurant because the shop owner, want to satisfy his customers, so came the chop suey. Now Nigeria is embarking in building railroads, the Chinese were the first to jump in. Maybe we might have the birth of Nigerian Chinese cuisines (joking please).
But 9ja grocery and recipe is out to promote most of Nigerian dishes to appeal to all. With our rich, diverse culture and ethnic group we can’t exhaust the dishes we could serve. Some might not be comfortable eating outside, by sticking to this blog or app, one could serve his guest a meal that could sign the contract.
